I made a whole new FB account with limitations, and added certain people to the call list. That is the only login I use for the portal. Maybe this would help you guys?

A nation stuck in lock-down, looking for a way to connect, and Facebook can't put fifteen minutes into connecting their kids messenger app with their device aimed at connecting kids with their extended family members. Worthless.

Agreed! It would be so much better if even they had an Family Option, that would allow only preselected contacts, similar to Facebook kids messenger. My daughter sometimes calls my contacts when she means to call family. I’d prefer more privacy also so that she’s not doing that or anyone else who is here access it.

I can't believe that this comment was posted a year ago and yet nothing has been done, I obviously didn't do enough research before I purchased the portals. With how much they push the portal for kids and the story time. It isn't kid friendly and I do not like that my 5 year old daughter can only use this when she's on my account with access to everything. I bought 3, one for us, my parents and my in laws, since we live across the country now but if she can only use my account that seems pointless... I could of saved 400 dollars and just downloaded the messenger app on my tablet... that seems like the right choice at this point

I am very disappointed that this will not connect to kids messenger - truthfully that is the reason I bought this & was planning on buying 3 more for my grandchildren for Christmas but now having second thoughts ! I want to be able to call them not their mothers !
Is there a way for me to call the portal not the parent ( who may be at work ) ?..

Yes! I second this. I would love for my nieces to be able to call me on their own. As it is, we mostly stay signed out so the kids can't access Facebook through the portal.

Just adding that we bought portal so I could talk to my kids when I'm across the country, but having to monitor them while they are using my wife's messenger is not good. I want her to be able to call HER friends (including myself) and not accidentally message someone my wife knows or go over her conversations.

I got the Portal so my daughter, who is 3, could communicate with her cousins across the country. But their parents and I have to use our regular FB accounts, and monitor the conversation because she has access to everything. It needs to have Messenger Kids, and when it's on Messenger Kids mode, it should be locked down subject to parental controls in the primary account. I'm debating returning it, since it doesn't fulfill our needs.

This is an absolute must to be able to do switch it to a Messenger Kids mode with parental controls.

Kids messenger would be good, but still we need to protect young children from access to th internet. So add parental controls as well, PLEASE!

Yesss!!! We specifically bought Portals for 3 of our family members so they could easily communicate with our son who is 2! Then we got him his own tablet and downloaded Messenger Kids so they could contact him on his tablet and he could safely use his own device rather than our phones, only to find out that our family members with portal can not use it to video chat with them like we hoped.
So now the only way around this is to put our Facebook on his tablet or lie about his age and create him his own which is totally unsafe!!

Yes. I agree with this. The Messanger Kids app is already available. The Portal is aimed to be for kids, with story time. Portal needs to be kid friendly

Bought 3 of these so my family could keep in touch. Now my nieces and nephews have kids accounts and I can’t video chat with them. Come on FB. Messenger kids should have been one of the first apps available!

Yes, I think this is ridiculous that they are not connected. It makes Facebook look like they are not aware of what other groups are doing. There is a HUGE push right now to get folks on Messenger Kids Why is this not part of your FAQ and why is it not yet integrated.

Children who have Messenger for Kids app should be able to call authorized users who own a portal.

Basically, my daughter should be able to use her tablet to call her Grandmother, who uses a portal.

Not having it work with Messenger for Kids is frankly ridiculous. My primary use case is my daughter (on a tablet) calling her grandmother (on a portal)

I'm worried without this feature then the portal will end up in a closet unused.
