Was going to purchase a set of these for my parents but my mother is nearly deaf and needs captioning for phonecalls

The portal TV is useless because I bought it for my deaf mother. She can see me and I can hear and see her but she has no idea what I am saying. Why would you NOT have closed captioning? There is a setting for turning on and off closed captioning but I guess that doesn't include CALL captioning which is why I bought the Portal device in the first place. Very disappointing.

Could market portal as a senior device with call captioning???

Portal is of no use to my plans of using to make phone calls to hard of hearing sets of parents using caption calling. Why has it no been implemented yet. Amazon echo has it????

closed captioning is so important. many senior citizens have hearing issues.

I'm looking for a third-party solution to provide live captioning during Portal TV conversations with my Mom, as she has trouble hearing me and I often have to write out what I'm trying to say on a sheet of paper and hold it up to the camera. An integrated solution would be awesome.

One solution is Google's Live Transcribe app that you can run on an tablet (Android or iOS) set near the TV's speaker and set the font size to maximum size. But a tighter, more integrated solution would work better (eg, only transcribe incoming audio rather than ambient conversations from the room).

Captioning would be a great idea. My son likes to video chat with me but, I struggle because I don't hear well. Please add this.

and the ability to be able to switch it on at the "remote" end would be great. My Dad is hard of hearing and is also a bot shakey on the technology front. It'd be great to be able to call him on his portal from my computer and also switch on the closed captions on his device so he can see what I am saying

I vote for this as I am also a member of the deaf community and we are left out of accessibility options way too much. Age has nothing to do with this

Why would Facebook Portal target older people and not have live closed captioning? Seems like a rowboat without a paddle. .

My father is deaf, when the connection is good he can lip read, but when the connection is poor he can't follow any conversation.

Please add closed captioning! My step mom is so isolated but can't hear well enough to talk on the phone.
