Disable the self-view window during a call
Allow us to disable the self-view window so that we have more viewing area of who we are talking to.

I need to disable the self-view window on video calls as it's affecting my childs ability to communicate with his father and grandparents all of whom live far away from us so video calls are regular. My child gets distracted by the image of himself during the calls and I'm concerned it's affecting his mental health and personality as he is become increasingly focused on himself and his appearance, which didn't used to be the case. It's bad enough that we have to live in a world of still image 'selfies' which already affect children's mental health and development and lead towards narcissistic personality traits, but to have this heightened by by video call self-views is appalling. We need the options to disable this for the future health and wellbeing of our children

Yes, Yes, Yes! I hate thge self viewer. When do we ever look at ourselves when talking to someone? Also, the girl i talk to ALWAYS changes the subject to her hair. Ya got to at LEAST give us the option Facebook

The self view is blocking the screen at the bottom right side. Having using this to keep in touch with small grandchildren that sit and play on the floor this blocks the view of them.

On a portal TV Keep clicking right until you get to the white left hand bar of self view then click that and it slides right, offscreen.

You can currently swipe it to the side to minimize it, which works quite well.

I don’t need to see me. In fact, I don’t want to see me. The window sits over the view of the other person. Who thought that would be a good idea? Please allow us to switch it off.

I agree - we need a solution.

Has anyone given or found a solution for this? I would like to be able to remove the self view window at times while allowing the other caller to still see me. Even the ability to control the size of said window would be a great help. As it is, it covers too much of the screen.

Please get rid of the self view window

Please give us the option to remove the self view. It takes space and it’s really frustrating.

Totally agree that no longer being able to move self-view window within the frame is a real problem. Why would that capability be disabled? And if there is some reason why the self-view window needs to remain static in a specific part of the frame, why not put it at the bottom of the screen where it is less likely to be covering someones face?

This is especially annoying as unlike other video call tools you don't need to see yourself to know you are in picture as Portal sorts that out.

I agree with you all!

Or maybe be able to move it, like on iPhone

I agree with this and the viewing is more diffcult when you have multiple party calls.

In quarintine life the Portal has been fantastic but it does fall short in larger multi-party chats that we are now having with family.
As other have said, the self view obscures another participant completely - we should be able to disable this or as James has commented, make the self video one of the tiles instead of an overlay over someone else. When you actually say that out loud, your self view is an overlay over someone else in the call who you want to see - it really is an odd design decision.I have also found cropping to be particuarly bad in multi party calls, with the smart zoom not being particuarly smart in these circumstances - often cutting people off as it tries to focus a full image on the person making the most noise. In my opinion, this isn't what people want. They want to see ALL their family members, not just the one making the most noise.
