1. HOW TO BACKUP ON PREMISE WORKLOADS TO AZURE?

   Backup to the cloud is a nebulous topic. From public clouds hosted by a handful of major players, to private clouds creating clusters of highly available storage within a company’s own data centers, to hybrids of the two and everything in between, the explosive growth of cloud data storage options has naturally led companies to want to back up their data to these same locations.

   Built-in Azure Backup Solution
   It would be fair to mention that Microsoft Azure also offers its own backup-related service called Azure Backup. This service does exactly what it is named after – creates backups of data and transfers them to the Azure cloud. It can work both as an Azure VM backup system and as an Azure backup on premise.

   Azure Backup as a whole is not a particularly complicated system – it uses its own MARS (Microsoft Azure Recovery Services) agent to send data to an Azure Backup Service Vault. After that, this vault then connects to an actual Azure cloud storage account, ready to accept backups as soon as you’re done setting up a backup schedule.

   The following step consists of figuring out the encryption settings – you can generate a random passphrase, or input your own. This passphrase is essential for any restoration process of yours. You also have to pick the location that your passphrase would be saved at. Clicking “Next” one final time concludes this half of the process.

   Backup scheduling is the second part of this entire Azure Backup setup process, and this one is significantly smaller, too:
   The first step here would be to launch the program we have previously installed (if it failed to launch automatically). In this program, you can see an entire panel of options on the right – pick “Schedule Backup” to begin.

   The “Schedule Backup Wizard” menu has multiple steps that help you with figuring out what you want to back up, how often to perform backups, and so on. The first step is to pick the backup target.

   Backup target. The entire plan that describes your backup and recovery efforts – your backup strategy – changes a lot depending on the backup target that you have chosen. There is a massive difference between backing up regular files and folders, and creating app-aware backups of specific instances of VMs. Other variations of backup targets are databases (Azure SQL database backups are one such example), services, all kinds of VMs, and more – and you should figure out if a backup solution supports your backup target before getting it.

   Backup performance. Another significant part of any backup strategy is the recovery time – figuring out how much time you can spend on fixing a service or a server (RTO), or how much time you can work without a part of your data (RPO). Both of these depend on a massive number of factors, including backup time, data transfer time, highest possible bandwidth of your channel, and more.

   Backup price. Pricing is also important when it comes to picking a cloud backup and recovery solution, since it is not uncommon for different service providers to implement different models when it comes to cloud storage space. For example, Azure Backup offers a pricing system that consists of two main components: a variable charge depending on the amount of storage used by the backup, and a flat charge depending on an instance size. As such, it is important to find out what model your backup service is using beforehand.

   Recovery process. While Backup Access Database as a process is important, it is extremely careless to forget about one more part of this – the recovery process. And this part of the service can also vary quite a lot depending on your cloud backup service of choice. For example, Azure backup and recovery system offers you the ability to recover VMs, workloads, system states and individual files, it can also be used to monitor backups, generate reports, run simple diagnostics, and more.
   In this context, we should also mention another similar service – Azure Site Recovery. It is another highly specific service that provides a comprehensive Microsoft Azure disaster recovery feature set for your data, including copying VMs, enabling failover, and so on.

2. Better support for hacked accounts

   Portal support need to be able to contact Facebook to support their customers.
   Facebook account hacked, inappropriate posts made, account disabled. No route to sort this. Sent round in circles via Facebook help pages but unable to action anything.
   Portal support state can't help other than to send links to Facebook help pages which don't work.
   Can't use paid for portal device as Facebook account disabled. Advised of using a workaround of WhatsApp for using portal but no good as parents don't use WhatsApp so only have access to portal via Facebook/messenger. As such can't use portals and parents can't interact with grandchildren via portal.

3. The last update sucks for seniors

   Hello, I bought the portal for my visually impaired grandmother at Christmas 2020. Everything was fine, she was using it wonderfully and it really made her smile again in this time of covid. The icons for calling were large, they were easily found, they were in a defined order and were easier to remember. It was perfect ! and above all she really managed to use it on her own. But here it is, yesterday, an automatic update was set up and since then we have been very disappointed. The icons for calling have become very small, they change order each time you call, it's not easy to get to them because before you just had to swipe and it was good. Where there are call icons, there is a big square to go as a shortcut to other applications. My grandmother is sad because she does not understand anything any more and especially everything has become small and nothing is possible to enlarge or return to the version before. In short, we feel really ripped off because we would not have bought the portal if we had known that it would become like that. Please think of the elderly and the visually impaired, leave the portal easy for them to access.

4. Ambient SlideShow limit

   I have been going in circles with Portal Support via e-mail and they keep directing me to this black hole.

   The ambient slideshow needs to use ALL of the photos placed in an album, not just the 50 "most popular". There should not be an algorithm choosing which photos show on the slide show unless someone chooses that specifically. I have this device for my 97 year old grandfather and the album is private and intended just for him to view. He only sees the 50 most recent added photos because of this algorithm/popularity contest. 50 photos does not begin to scratch the surface of 73 years of marriage, children, grand children, great grandchildren, parents , siblings, war buddies, life long friends, pets...The 400 I have in the album barely scratch the surface and he can't see those because someone decided that the photos you see on the ambient slideshow need to be popular to other people and interacted with.

5. Bring back photo casting

   Removing photo casting is a horrible decision. Photo casting adds to the video calling experience by being able to add to the discussion. After buying 4 more portals as gifts for others this is really disappointing that we cannot use this now that we've bought them for family and friends.

7. Create Ringtone options for Portal

   The devise is superb for use by elderly people that battle with technology interface when using whatsapp calls. The only constraint is that they miss incoming calls as the ringtone is not load enough and there is no option to set Ringtone and associated ringtone volume.

8. Azure Dedicated Hosts

   Azure Dedicated Host is a service that provides physical servers - able to host one or more virtual machines - dedicated to one Azure subscription. Dedicated hosts are the same physical servers used in our data centers, provided as a resource. You can provision dedicated hosts within a region, availability zone, and fault domain. Then, you can place VMs directly into your provisioned hosts, in whatever configuration best meets your needs.

   Benefits

   Reserving the entire host provides the following benefits:

   Hardware isolation at the physical server level. No other VMs will be placed on your hosts. Dedicated hosts are deployed in the same data centers and share the same network and underlying storage infrastructure as other, non-isolated hosts.

   Control over maintenance events initiated by the Azure platform. While the majority of maintenance events have little to no impact on your Windows 365 Virtual Desktop, there are some sensitive workloads where each second of pause can have an impact. With dedicated hosts, you can opt in to a maintenance window to reduce the impact to your service.

   With the Azure hybrid benefit, you can bring your own licenses for Windows and SQL to Azure. Using the hybrid benefits provides you with additional benefits. For more information, see Azure Hybrid Benefit.

   Groups, hosts, and VMs

   A host group is a resource that represents a collection of dedicated hosts. You create a host group in a region and an availability zone, and add hosts to it.

   A host is a resource, mapped to a physical server in an Azure data center. The physical server is allocated when the host is created. A host is created within a host group. A host has a SKU describing which VM sizes can be created. Each host can host multiple VMs, of different sizes, as long as they are from the same size series.

   High Availability considerations
   For high availability, you should deploy multiple VMs, spread across multiple hosts (minimum of 2). With Azure Dedicated Hosts, you have several options to provision your infrastructure to shape your fault isolation boundaries.

   Use Availability Zones for fault isolation
   Availability zones are unique physical locations within an Azure region. Each zone is made up of one or more datacenters equipped with independent power, cooling, and networking. A host group is created in a single availability zone. Once created, all hosts will be placed within that zone. To achieve high availability across zones, you need to create multiple host groups (one per zone) and spread your hosts accordingly.

   If you assign a host group to an availability zone, all VMs created on that host must be created in the same zone.

   Use Fault Domains for fault isolation
   A host can be created in a specific fault domain. Just like VM in a scale set or availability set, hosts in different fault domains will be placed on different physical racks in the data center. When you create a host group, you are required to specify the fault domain count. When creating hosts within the host group, you assign fault domain for each host. The VMs do not require any fault domain assignment.

   Fault domains are not the same as colocation. Having the same fault domain for two hosts does not mean they are in proximity with each other.

   Fault domains are scoped to the host group. You should not make any assumption on anti-affinity between two host groups (unless they are in different availability zones).

   VMs deployed to hosts with different fault domains, will have their underlying managed disks services on multiple storage stamps, to increase the fault isolation protection.

   Using Availability Zones and Fault Domains
   You can use both capabilities together to achieve even more fault isolation. In this case, you will specify the availability zone and fault domain count in for each host group, assign a fault domain to each of your hosts in the group, and assign an availability zone to each of your VMs

   The Resource Manager sample template uses zones and fault domains to spread hosts for maximum resiliency in a region.

   Manual vs. automatic placement
   When creating a VM in Azure, you can select which dedicated host to use. You can also use the option to automatically place your VMs on existing hosts, within a host group.

   When creating a new host group, make sure the setting for automatic VM placement is selected. When creating your VM, select the host group and let Azure pick the best host for your VM.

   Host groups that are enabled for automatic placement do not require all the VMs to be automatically placed. You will still be able to explicitly pick a host, even when automatic placement is selected for the host group.

    When we video call our family on a Portal, they use an iPhone on speakerphone. We can only hear the person holding the phone, nothing from more distant people. Can this be fixed? All devices are working fine, call volumes turned up, network quality is good, etc.

15. Remove new MOST USED APPS on home page

    We own 5 Portals and were purchased to stay in touch with elderly family members and it was great until recently. You changed the home page set up which now has made the contact photo's much much smaller and almost impossible to see the green lite easily anymore. Now, instead of the contact icons being a good size and easy to see for elderly people...you've added an area that takes up almost 50% of the home page saying 'Most Used Apps' which you can't even swipe away or disable!! At least give us that option!! We did NOT need this added as it was very simple already to find 'settings/photos/help' without this taking up so much of the home page. Please go back to the old format or at least give us the option to stick with the original format. Elderly people need things simple and that was the whole point of even buying all of these Portals

16. continue to enable casting of photos

    Please do not remove the casting of photos from the portal. They have a great source of pleasure for my mother.
    I don't understand why you'd do this.

19. Photo Slideshow function

    Please add the option under the slideshow idle time to never turn off. As of right now, the most anyone can do is an hour. Which kind of stinks because one of the primary reasons many people use this device is because it can act as a digital photo frame that connects with their photo albums on participating apps. Portal's competitor, the Amazon Echo Show, will show photos all day. The only reason I decided to try Portal over the Show is because I have a Show for my mom and I think having multiple folders in the Amazon photos would confuse her, and because all my photos are already on Facebook so I don't have to reupload stuff. But I have the Portal currently at my home office and I have to keep tapping it every hour to keep the slideshow going which is kind of annoying. Still debating on whether I want to return it and get an Echo Show because of this.

20. Superframe

    I just purchased my device - so far so go. My only issue is the screen randomly turns off. The longest length is an hour. My Echo Show, which I had for several years, also turned off but still allowed the time to be seen.

    Many people use their device as a clock. This is an unnecessary omission. And it seems like an easy fiX.
