Instead of a red circle with a white X to end a call, why not (more common and makes sense) a red circle with a PHONE icon inside!?

Why the 'Red circle with white cross' to end a call??
Would it not be more 'user friendly/appropriate/common/normal to simply have an icon of a phone handset in a red circle, as is common with most calling apps?
