Design better or wall mounted TV's
Hi, I really do enjoy using Portal.
We use it on two wall mounted TV's.
We have no cabinet underneath for aesthetic reasons.
The Portal has cables that stick out the back effectively making the depth of the unit longer because of the HDMI and power lead. Would be good if you used 90 degree male cables leads or built generation two to insert up the bottom.
Another aspect is the power lead. It is proprietary to your unit and the way the socket is built is very awkward. Ideally, we would like to power it off a USB on the TV but it seems 12V 2.0A and 240 W will be too much juice, I think USB normally only power 5V.
So now, we have a very short cable and must run an extension lead behind the tv so that it can be plugged in. Also your socket comes out the top so its very bulky, vs a flat plug as with many other regular devices. Because we have to have an electrical extension bar behind a wall mounted flush tv.
I was thinking of having custom made DC 12V 2.0A 240W units made, but I can't tell in the specs what the pin barrell diameters are. Is it 1mm inner diameter with a 2mm outer barrell?
So you can see that one either needs a very long power cable or bring an extension lead behind the wall up to those of us with aesthetically perfect wall mounted tv's.
If I was to be pedantic the feet on the Portal don't fit well on the new super thin OLED tv's and its something to think about in the new designs
Oh, and please, please bring WEBEX and Zoom to the Portal TV, its actually the only reason I bought them only to find out they didn't cover this unit.
