Ability to change the wake word
We have our entire house covered by multiple Echo devices ( six so far) so we can control the house from anywhere. All the devices have one wake word. Because the portal does not allow the wake word change I have two devices next to each other to perform all functions. I don’t want to change all the devices to Alexa to match the portal because when we had that as a wake word before and it responded to too many similar words.

Change the Alexa name to either echo or Amazon or computer, and they will work on their own and not kick start portal whose name is Alexa.

I have an Alexa Echo and a portal. It’s frustrating to have both devices answer. I want to change the portal, because the Echo is our primary device.

Same for me. bought a portal TV for my 84 year old mom but she already had a smaller portal on the other side of the room. The "Portal" wake word is a conflict and I've been trying to figure out how to change it (similar to the way Echo, Amazon, Alexa, Computer can do it). Mark (Zuckerberg) can you please update the interface to allow the change of the Portal wake word?

This is a nightmare. We have over a dozen Echo devices in our house. Even our lounge has a Show (Echo), Echo Tall (Alexa), Dot (Amazon). With the Portal TV, we have two devices responding to 'Alexa' and for some unknown reason, the Portal TV wins in response (glowing), but its Alexa functionality and speed in controlling smart home is shocking with us waiting sometimes up to 10-15 seconds for it to action a request (such as turn on tv).
The PortalTV is a great device for Video conferencing - except it is missing functionality in Australia and has no web browser (so stupid). But a TV is mostly part of a home entertainment system with a Receiver controlling multiple HDMI inputs. So the PortalTV's weak internal speaker is not appropriate to be the dominant device around other units.
Facebook. The Portal family of devices could be massive. But not if you mess without existing environments. I have bought 6 Portals already, but I may have to retire them to less useful locations due to the conflict with existing units. Sorry, but the PortalTV is slow and crippled. Its speaker is not for music like Echo original, and having the browser not working on the PortalTV is seriously disappointing.
I can see from all these messages that many here love the Portal. Just talk to us. Give us a roadmap. If you told us X would be fixed in Y, then we'd be patient.
I hope to hear good news from you guys.

Totally agree that there should be another option for the wake word other than “Portal.” My 80 year old grandma cannot pronounce it. Changing “wake” command much needed for Senior users.

Amazon speakers listen for the name "Alexa" as its default "wake word," but you can switch its "wake word" to "Amazon," "Echo," or "Computer." Why can't Portal do the same? Since my sister's name is Alexa, we cannot sync our Portal with Amazon because it springs to life anytime we are speaking with or about her. This is a HUGE drawback, and honestly, I cannot believe this accessibility issue hasn't been addressed yet.

Agree with comments related to older folks not being able to pronounce “portal”. Recently purchased Portal 88 year old father-in-law and he has been unable to use voice control features (& we know touch screens also issue). Changing “wake” command much needed for Senior users. Will not recommend Portal by Facebook to others with older users in mind.

Need to be able to change the wake word, or else my echo wakes when I want the portal to. Just like John said, below: I have an Echo device which I use for smart device control and other services.
I'm happy to activate my Portal with 'Hey Portal' but I need to stop it responding to the command 'Alexa'. How do I do this? -

I need the ability to change the Portal "wake" word. Please enable this in the next update. Otherwise, I will buy a smart plug to disable portal.

Facebook, please allow this feature!
Custom wake word in Alexa should be a basic feature. If amazon allow it on their devices, then so should you.
