Ability to change the wake word
We have our entire house covered by multiple Echo devices ( six so far) so we can control the house from anywhere. All the devices have one wake word. Because the portal does not allow the wake word change I have two devices next to each other to perform all functions. I don’t want to change all the devices to Alexa to match the portal because when we had that as a wake word before and it responded to too many similar words.

Hello Facebook! Not allowing a user to change the wake word is an obvious problem - especially for your largest customer base, older people!
Can someone at least get on this - I cannot imagine it would be difficult to allow 'Hey Portal' to also respond to the wake word 'Alexa'

Having this same problem. The portalTV acts as a dominant device over the living room echo. The portal steams when asking to play a song instead of the echo, but the TV/reciever isn't generally on so its just silence. My kids/wife expect the echo to play. My solution that half works: in alexa app create a group and put the portal and echo in it. Select the echo as the preferred device.
It stops the portal taking over streaming but not answering every other alexa request.

So agree with comments below, thank you all for sharing. In this global pandemic FB portal is IDEAL device to see my 87 y/o mom in law. She can NOT pronounce Portal - please please change the programming to allow device rename option. Many thanks! Wanting to stay connected in shelter in place OHIO

I have an Echo device which I use for smart device control and other services.
I'm happy to activate my Portal with 'Hey Portal' but I need to stop it responding to the command 'Alexa'. How do I do this? -

There should be ability to change Alexa wake word, and the 'hey portal' to something else - my grandparents just can't say these with enough of an American accent for it to work.

I have 3 echos in my house. No matter where I move my Portal it triggers whenever I say Alexa. I like the Alexa wake word. I don't want to have to change it. It is very annoying that the Portal doesn't have the option to change its. It's frustrating enough to consider selling it.

My 85yo grandma can't enunciate PORTAL clearly enough for the voice function to work. Make the word more flexible "hey porta" or allow an option to change the wake word so something easy for older people missing teeth to say.
