Disable the self-view window during a call
Allow us to disable the self-view window so that we have more viewing area of who we are talking to.

I don't need to see myself especially if it is impeding the view of my family. I want to see my children and their children. I could care less about seeing me.

I'm so glad I read this! I'm not going to buy a Portal until this is fixed. No sense in my husband and I using it to communicate with our grandchildren if they can't see both of us, or we see all of them.

Please make this happen, it's one thing that is really making me regret having bought the Portal and one of the cons I have to share when friends are talking about getting something similar for their lockdown families.
This should be standard, can't believe it already isn't! Such an obvious and likely easy change.
I can't quite understand why, when having a 3 or 4 way call, the self video isn't just one of the other tiles anyway. It makes it very difficult to view other participants.

I'd like the option to just hide it then show if changing effects

We need this for group calls as we can’t see kids or faces in corners. We gotta switch back to Zoom in the age of mass group calls

I see this idea was first shared in November 2019. It's one thing sharing an idea and another thing getting some feedback on it. It would be nice to get some official response to this simple request which would appear to be a relatively easy fix. April 2020 and still waiting

The self-view window ruins this tool for children <12. You know, the crowd who is exceptionally isolated right now. For them, it changes the Portal from a way to connect with family and friends into an anxiety-inducing game.
Try having a conversation in-person while staring in the mirror, then try to do it while watching yourself on a TV, then try to do it while watching yourself on a TV with random effects overlaid on you. Now, imagine you're under 12. Are you paying any attention to the other people on the screen?

Come on Facebook, this is such a basic thing. The self view obscures other participants in the chat on portal tv.
Please attend to this asap

Disabling and/or moving the self view picture-in-picture window would be wonderful. When I chat with two people, it ends up covering one of them.
Note that multiple requests exist for this feature:

This option is especially needed in a group call, where the local view is displayed in its own section of the screen and does not fade out.

I have a new born baby and wife living far away far away so the Portal TV is a perfect solution for various reasons.
Our challenge is that without proper camera controls, the Portal does not face track my son. My wife is required to crouch by the crib to be able to get him in the frame. Adjusting the spotlight does not help. The default position for the camera seems to sit on a chair in the corner of the room.
Having the ability to have a full room camera setting should be a basic options with launch. We try to run our portal as much as possible but we keep going back to our phones so that we can adjust the camera angles.

At least allow us to move the window. So many times, the window is covering the face of a person behind it. In group video calls of 3 or 4 participants, the left side is completely blocked.

We are very pleased so far with the portal. It is just this one thing that is a little frustrating. We have the portal to chat with my sister in America. She has a 21 month old daughter, who moves around a lot . She doesn’t understand that she has to stay in one place. When using the phones or tablets, you can just drag the self view window out of the way. So fingers crossed that this will happen quickly.

Should have the ability to do all three: move, resize and disable.

This BUG really detracts from the user experience. The whole point of this device is to have a group conversation with your family. Family's usually consist of more than 1 person, well if you get two people sitting on a couch together the fancy camera zooms in on the subjects, which is great BUT on the other end the person on the left is completely obscured. How did this not become an issue in testing? Was it never tested with more than one person? Its a HUGE oversight and I hope it gets resolved ASAP or I will not continue using this device.

As long as there is also a facility to check what my camera is sending
