Replacement Remote Control or Remote Control App
Kind of odd but apparently there's no ability to purchase a replacement remote control or to download an App that can function as a remote on my phone. It's a little frustrating that my only option is to buy a new Portal TV?

An incredibly simple thing for Portal to do would have been to put a recall button on the Portal TV which would make the remote control beep so it could be found easily. But regardless, it should be possible to buy and pair a replacement.

Has anyone found a solution here? Have portal even made a statement or responded? We lost our remote and are using the app but it's not as good or as fluid

Using the TV remote worked for me. The feature, known as HDMI-CEC, is on by default for Portal TV.
In my case, my LG TV (a 2020 model) had the function disabled by default. LG call this Symlink or ‘3rd Party Device Control’. Turned this on in my LG TV settings and then was able to use my LG remote to control my portal.
This worked for me even though my Portal app remote wouldn’t work and I was not able to change any Portal TV settings.

I am tempting to buy another Portal from Amazon then return it and claim the remote is missing from the box.

Our daughter bought your portal camera for us for Christmas in order to safely keep in contact during the pandemic which we have found a great benefit. Unfortunately the remote handset has been mislaid and I understand that we are unable to buy a replacement. I am very disappointed as video contact is much better that phone calls. Hope you can rectify this situation for us.

The app would work for a replacement remote, but apparently only if YOU ARE ALREADY CONNECTED TO WIFI. My Mom lost her remote during a move and we can't find a way to get the portal online. The app says to make sure the device is on the same wifi as the phone and the portal responds to any commands by saying it needs to be connected.

I'm so glad I found Dasvon's post on Portal remote. My son's remote is broken and I was looking into replacing it.

Well. It's not so useless. Your TV remote performs all the features of Portal. Either instruct portal to "open apps", open portal" or just go to your chosen HDMI input for portal. Then use up, down, left, right, enter, and volume
with your TV remote as you did with the portal remote.Oh.... And download the Portal app to have a virtual remote on your phone.
So, If needed, download the Portal app. Run app and click "remote" icon..... Voila! Remote!.. But.. then control portal with virtual remote to go to settings (or say "Hey Portal, open settings") scroll right to "remote", under portal settings onscreen, and set TV AND RECEIVER CONTROL to ON, so that your TV remote will control Portal as well.
