1. The benefits of Desktop as a Service

   Many organizations are undergoing digital transformation, and modernizing the workplace is often a stream within the wider strategy. In order to manage remote and multi-device workforces using desktop as a service, you should think about the following seven benefits and how this will change, and hopefully improve, your currently way of working.

   1) The modern workplace
   Digital transformation is redefining what we think about the workplace. At the heart of this evolution are technology and the introduction of digital-first natives into the workplace.

   The millennial is no longer the office junior but is now the manager. By 2020, the millennial employee (those born between 1981 and 1996) is forecasted to comprise half of the global workforce, and by 2025, they will make up 75 percent of it.

   Millennials expect workplace technology to work as well as or better than their own devices. They are comfortable with technology and count on their employers to provide them with the tools they need to do their job. Allowing staff to work remotely and via their own devices is a surefire way to attract and retain the best talent.

   2) Cost
   As with many cloud initiatives, Desktop as a Service moves costs from CAPEX to OPEX, leaving you more cash in the bank to spend on growing your business. Per desktop pricing enables you to know exactly what workforce expansion will cost the IT department, removing unforeseen infrastructure or hardware purchases as this is handled by the provider, who bundle everything in with the price of each desktop.

   Virtual machines use the compute power of the data centre rather than their local machines, placing less demand on the endpoint. This means that, by using fast virtual desktops, you can extend your organisation’s desktop and laptop refresh cycle, offering a secondary means of reducing costs by keeping endpoints in action for longer. Users who are entirely office-based can be switched onto low maintenance zero clients (also known as thin clients) which have no local OS or storage. You can even go as far as bringing in a bring your own device (BYOD) policy, where staff is expected to use personal hardware to access corporate resources, which is particularly useful if your organization promotes remote working.

   3) Scalability
   Due to the ‘…as a service’ delivery model, DAAS enables you to add user workstations fast and easily. This is particularly handy when your organization utilizes contract resources or temporary project teams, as there’s no hardware to procure, meaning you have the flexibility to create a desktop almost instantly and delete it when no longer required. This also puts you in control.

   4) Control
   DaaS helps you manage the risks that naturally come with giving your staff the freedom to work anywhere and on any device. It enables you to control the essentials such as data access and compliance without being overly restrictive. You no longer have to worry about what data is held on a user’s device as the data remains in the data center at all times. This gives you control over all company assets because access can be revoked with the touch of a button.

   5) Management
   With an increasingly dispersed workforce, rolling out new applications or patching existing software has become more of a logistical problem than a technical one.
   Trying to coordinate people bringing in physical devices to be patched is a real issue for many companies, something which is eliminated completely with DaaS. You operate on one central image (or a small number of images based on persona), a change is made once, and everyone is on the latest version. It removes the need to standardise builds of end-user compute hardware as DaaS will run on almost any device no matter its configuration.

   6) Security
   DaaS moves the security risk from hundreds of end-user devices and put it all into the controlled and managed environment of a data centre. Lost or stolen laptops no longer provide a security risk. No data is on the local machine. As DaaS removes the need to create VPNs to access applications and data held by the company it also removes the problem of users trying to bypass the security in the belief that it will make their life easier.

3. Please allow live captioning for those who are hard of hearing

   My family members with significant hearing loss would significantly benefit from the addition of this accessibility feature. This is one area where Facebook messenger has fallen behind competitiors & I would love to see it included so that these family members can better participate in conversations with us!

4. Add Hanguel (Korean Keyboard) on Portal+

   I cannot find a Korean Keyboard on my Portal device.
   On a system setting, there are many keyboards of many languages, but the portal+ does not support Hanguel.
   Since there are many K-pop fans who want to use hanguel while using messengers, why don't you add a Korean keyboard on Portal+?

5. Photo casting

   Development team,

   Please do not remove photo casting on December 6.

   Photo casting sets you above other videocalling platforms.

   The Portal needs the photo casting function, otherwise you might as well just FaceTime and screen share.

   Removing photo casting is not a good way to keep customers on board or attract new ones.

7. More variations a

   I'm currently trying to teach my Dad with Alzheimers how to use Facebook portal TV so we can stay in touch. He's struggles to use it because he says 'Hi PortAL' and can't get the words 'phone [my name]' out fast enough. He feels like such a failure when it doesn't work. Is it possible to get Portal to recognise Hi instead of just Hey and port-AL rather than just portal. Also it would be great if it can listen out for commands a tiny bit longer, while my Dad finds his words.

10. Reinstate Story Time

    I’m a grandparent who has been using Story Time to interact with my grandchild during the pandemic. On a call this week, we discovered that most of the stories wouldn’t launch. The few that did launch worked correctly for a few pages and then scrambled the order so that the text and pictures were out of sync. I’ve been working with your Customer Support via chat and email for three days, thinking this was a software defect that could be fixed. However, today I was told that the Story Time feature is malfunctioning because I live in Texas—? Following is the explanation I received from Support. Please clarify why you’ve disabled Story Time functionality for users in Texas and Illinois and when my Portal TV’s Story Time feature (the primary feature my family uses) will be functional again. Excerpt from the Support email informing me that my ticket will now be closed with no resolution:
    “ Portal owners in Texas and Illinois may notice they can no longer access certain experiences across Photobooth, Messenger calls, and Storytime. Access will be restored once the opt-in experience is live and they agree to enable. As we do not have a specific timeline for this feature to be enable, we really do hope it will be enabled in the near future.“
    When will this be fixed?

12. Add our videos option to the photo slideshow

    I have videos of my kids and it would be cool to have them randomly play along with the other photos in the ambient photos slideshow. It's fun to see how much they have grown and the fun adventures.

14. Allow to stream to Facebook live from zoom

    Currently you can get on zoom but as a host your not allowed to stream to Facebook live. Since you took away FB live and it was the only reason I bought 2 devices, can you please add this?

16. ability hide date, time etc from photo display

    When I use FB Portal as a photo frame, I want it to look like a photo frame. Displaying my profile pic, time, date, album name, date of photo, camera off icon etc, makes it look like an electronic gadget and detracts from the photo itself.

    Please add an option to hide some or all of this stuff, so I can just enjoy the photos themselves.

    It's very easy to do and would make a big difference to me, and I can't imagine I'm the only one who would use this feature.

17. Send to different countries?? Or more 'universal' charger??

    As there was a good offer in the UK to get £100 off two Portal Go devices, I thought, what a great gift for family in the US. The website says that devices can be sent to different addresses - yes, they can, but only if they are in the same country. Oh... now I see other people have compalined already. And why not have some sort of USB adapter plug to make the device more globally adaptable?

18. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!

    Worst customer service ever. Return portal on Jan 2022 and yet to receive my refund or an update from customer service. It's been more than 8 weeks and no reply or update from customer service.

19. Needs a PictureFrame/Clock mode.

    I bought this to use as a picture frame / clock, but the screen goes black after a max of 1 hour. WHY? Why isn't there an option for "Never" for the ambient screen options? I would think this would be the most common use case for this device!
