4. Does Portal by Facebook break any HIPAA laws? My mom's nursing home is trying to restrict use of it.

   First of all, I’m an advocate to the Portal by Facebook. I’ve been sharing this great way to communicate with others on Facebook and word of mouth. It came out during Covid19 when we couldn’t see our loved ones in the nursing home. What great timing! That’s why I bought it for my mom! Thank you!
   My mom is living in a nursing home and I bought her the Portal by Facebook in December. She has Parkinson's and can no longer use her cell phone, because of her shaking. The Portal helps my mom so much. She doesn't have to use her shaky hands to answer a call or make one. It makes her feel like we're in the room with her. Now the nursing home wants to restrict my mom from using her Portal because it's something new and they don't understand it. They said it's against the HIPAA law because of mom's roommate in the room with her. It would be no problem if mom had a room to herself. The roommate doesn’t seem to have an issue with the Portal as she talks to me during my calls to mom as well. How can I reach out to someone at Portal by Facebook to see if they can help me fight this? I can’t help but wonder if their trying to hide something by doing this. I don’t think that’s the case but still. They don’t have restrictions on cell phone where I’m sure many face time residence there. I told the nursing home that using the Portal is the same as if I was sitting in the room with my mom. If a doctor was going to come in to see mom’s roommate, just ask me to leave. With the Portal, you simply turn the camera off or unplug it. The nursing home wants to restrict my mom to only using the Portal a couple hours a day and then it will be unplugged. If mom wants to talk to someone, or someone wanted to talk to her, we would each need to call the nurse so they can move mom and her portal to a public area for her to use the Portal. That makes no sense to me. My mom sometimes calls me 10 times a day. Note: it takes 2 nurses to move mom, she can’t walk on her own, so she would have to wait until they had 2 nurses that were free to move her and the Portal to this public area and then back to her room when to conversation was finished. That would take more work from their staff that they don’t have. My mom is so upset because she needs to know she can call me at anytime and I’m there. How can they set a policy for the Portal when it’s just like me sitting in the room with mom. Their afraid someone will hear some personal information. So again, I said it’s no different than physically being in the room with her or even on a cell phone face timing. All they have to do is ask that we end our conversation and call back later. They don’t need to take the Portal from my mom. Where are her rights? Their removing her only means to communication. Plus, I’m her POA and I need to make sure she’s okay. Can you help me?

5. Chess battleship euchre guess who/what

   Love my portal! Great way to keep in touch with family and just hang out together even miles apart. I wish I could find a place to recommend some games to add, like chess, battleship, and a guess who/what type of game.

7. remote to adjust for zooming manually

   I cook and sell Tupperware. I bought the Portal+ because it works in my kitchen but it is so limited. I would like to see us have a remote control to tell the Portal to zoom out or in manually.

11. Market to Military families and Military Installations

    Military moves, birth events missed, deployments, training exercises in the field, and adapting to new social networks are challenges for military families. Non-military spouses are also having to adjust to networking for a new job in a new area or telework to keep current job. Sometimes a Military spouses current qualifications in one state are not accepted at the new duty location.I recommend outreach and advocacy by Facebook to help with these transitions. I recommend Portal be offered through the Military exchange stores and marketing to military families especially with its capability in may international locations. Portal Pods could also be fixed in barracks, MWR liberty locations, and hospitals. My portal has allowed me to stay in touch with my family. The moving camera allows less time spent moving a device to fit everyone into frame including toddlers!

12. Remote control support for the portal and portal+ Displays when plugged into the tv via usb-c to hdmi adapter

    I am using the portal 10” display wired up to my tv, so that mid call I can switch back to the small screen and carry on using my tv, whilst still on video call. Something I couldn’t do with the portal tv. However I have to walk over to the screen to control it via touch. Giving it remote control support when plugged in via hdmi would be a life saver

14. PortaTV Group Calling Must be made easier

    If you want PortalTV to compete with Zoom, you need to make it easier to set up a Group "Recurring" Call... Currently, you must call one person in the group and then manually add 4-6-10-15 others, a horribly tough process as it is since we don't have a keyboard interface... BUT THEN, if you want to REPEAT the call (you know, like keep in touch with family, friends, etc on a regular basis like FB was designed for), each time you want to get the group together, you have to redo the steps ...

    I can't be the only one who sees this as lunacy....

    Am I missing something? Because it certainly seems as though FB Portal TV is missing something...

15. Clean HDMI Out for Portal (Gen1) and Portal+

    This is a feature request.

    Currently, it is possible to 'mirror' the Portal display for the Gen1 devices.

    As this link shows: https://portal.facebook.com/help/308224519867324/, it is possible to get HDMI out via an USB-C adapter and connect it to an external monitor.

    This means that the HDMI feed can be used with a capture card (Elgato, Blackmagic 3G recorder) to utilize the fantastic Portal camera with other applications via OBS's virtual camera feature.

    Currently, doing so will always display some kind of UI on the screen, making it unfeasible to use the camera in this way.

    It would be great if we could get any kind of clean HDMI output with no UI elements (maybe as a toggle for the photo booth app?) so that the Portal could be used in this way.

    This could potentially work as a generalized solution providing compatibility across all applications that require a webcam (Zoom, Discord, Skype), although it would admittedly be limited to only video output.

17. Use a virtual receptionist

    When I didn't want to lose one of my best employees (this was BEFORE the pandemic) I decided to make her a virtual employee. She is our main front office person for our orthodontic and pediatric dental office. We set up the portal so she can talk to patients and staff members. When the covid pandemic hit, this idea took off like wildfire and other offices were asking me about it. It works so well and we love it.
