To add to this, with the family having portal TV's my sister had to give up using it to teach yoga in lockdown as the zoom feature would crop in too close and not allow those viewing to see the positions. Niche case i know, but it does seem ridiculous that having purchased this fantastic bit of kit she had to revert to using her phone.

I agree with this - the portal often zooms too far in to the point where the image looks pixilated on the big screen (Made worse in the evening with low light). An option in the menu (a bit like the audio mix for sharing video) where we could reduce the default zoom level on a sliding percentage from the default would be a good start. This must be really easy to do to just surface a global togle to reduce zoom by X%. Additionally the ability to toggle in a call would be great along with just seeing the whole frame.

The smart zoom is good and a nice wow feature - that being said i do feel it enhances the portal standalone devices more with their smaller screens where the subject can fill the smaller screen which you might be looking at from a distance rather than the portal TV where the image is being displayed on very big display.

As always, thanks so much to everyone who voted for this idea! As part of a recent software update, the ability to move the self-view window during a call has been added to Portal, Potal+, and Portal Mini devices. Simply touch your self-view and drag it to another corner of the screen! As this functionality is not available on Portal TV at this time, we will be marking this idea as started. Thanks and enjoy!

In quarintine life the Portal has been fantastic but it does fall short in larger multi-party chats that we are now having with family.
As other have said, the self view obscures another participant completely - we should be able to disable this or as James has commented, make the self video one of the tiles instead of an overlay over someone else. When you actually say that out loud, your self view is an overlay over someone else in the call who you want to see - it really is an odd design decision.

I have also found cropping to be particuarly bad in multi party calls, with the smart zoom not being particuarly smart in these circumstances - often cutting people off as it tries to focus a full image on the person making the most noise. In my opinion, this isn't what people want. They want to see ALL their family members, not just the one making the most noise.
