I agree many senior users don't have a CEC enabled TV.
My understanding is that Portal TV does not have its own speakers so the user might not know that they are being called unless the TV (through the CEC HDMI) turns on, switch to HDMI source and play the sound. Current Portal is great as a stand alone device but it's still a pretty small screen at 10'' so it would be great to have the option to use as a stand alone (for shorter calls) and a TV out for longer ones.
